Accessibility Statement

We want every maker in this community to be able to use this site — including people using screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, magnification, or captioning.

Conformance target

Downriver Makerspace aims to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA. That standard is our target; this site has been reviewed against it but has not been independently audited, and we are not claiming full conformance.

What we've done

Semantic HTML structure with a logical heading order
Full keyboard navigation with visible focus indicators
Text contrast checked against the 4.5:1 AA minimum for body text
Every form field has a programmatically associated label
Images carry descriptive alternative text; decorative images are hidden from assistive technology
Responsive layout that supports zoom to 200% without loss of content
No auto-playing audio or video, and no content that flashes more than three times per second

Known limitations

Some workshop-area icons are decorative emoji; the adjacent heading and body text carry the meaning.
The optional section of the waitlist form is a collapsible disclosure. It is keyboard operable, but screen-reader announcement of its expanded state varies between browsers.
The waitlist form is delivered by Formspree, a third party whose processing pages we do not control.
The site has not been tested against every assistive-technology and browser combination.

Accessibility of the physical space

No space is leased yet. Physical accessibility is a stated criterion in our site selection — including step-free entry, accessible restrooms, and adequate aisle clearance around equipment. Founding members will be part of that decision. Once a location is chosen, this page will be updated with the specifics of that building, honestly stated, including any limitations.

We aim to respond within 5 business days and to fix confirmed barriers as quickly as we reasonably can. If something blocks you from joining the waitlist, say so and we will add you manually.

This statement is reviewed whenever the site changes materially, and updated when a physical location is secured.
